Canada is well-known for its high educational and living standards, and it is the most popular destination for international students looking to further their education and build a career. Every year, more than 100,000 students come to Canada to study and explore exciting career opportunities.
The International Student Program has undergone some changes at Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Students will now work part-time (up to 20 hours a week) without a work permit under the new regulations. It provides students with the opportunity to learn about Canada and its history. It also gives students the option of working on or off campus.
The following requirements must be met in order to obtain a student visa.
Accepted into a Canadian Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
Current status in Canada
Proof of financial support for your education as well as proof of residence in Canada for the duration of your studies.
If you’re a tourist in Canada and want to apply for a study permit to attend a designated learning institution, you may be able to do so from within the country. Certain foreign nationals can apply for and receive a study permit from within Canada as of June 1, 2014. There are some of them:
Minor children enrolled in primary or secondary school;
Students on exchange or on a visit; and
Students who have successfully completed a short-term course or programme of study that is required for admission to a specified institution.
The student holds a Graduate Work Permit for a minimum of one to a maximum of three years after successfully completing the programme of study.
After completing their studies, students may apply to become a permanent resident of Canada.
